I am a British fangrl, currently doing a PhD in Astrophysics and living with fadagaski.

I primarily use this journal for fannish pursuits, mostly fanfiction. I'm particularly partial to slash, so if depictions of fictional characters in homosexual relationships bothers you, I wouldn't advise you to read this journal.

Fandoms

I'm a serial monogamist when it comes to fandoms. My current obsession is Star Trek (TOS and AOS), specifically Kirk/Spock.

The other fandoms I've been heavily involved in are LotR (Frodo/Sam), Harry Potter (Snape/Harry and Snape/Lockhart), A Song of Ice and Fire (Loras/Renly, Dany/Jon) and I had a shameful flirtation with Political RPS and had the dubious honour of posting the first Cameron/Clegg. I've also dipped my toes into (but not written in) Buffy (Spike/Buffy and Spike/Angel, with a side of Buffy/Giles), Stargate SG-1 (Jack/Daniel), House (House/Wilson) and Heroes (Sylar/anyone, Peter/Claire) and have written a few dodgy Hitchhikers' Guide/ HP crossovers.

Recs

I read a lot of fic, and I keep a rather large recs list of the ones I like. In usual fannish style, this was over half of what I read in my first flush of love with the fandom, and these days is about 5-10%.

I started this list for my own reference, and while I hope others find it useful, please bear in mind that it's highly subjective. I have quite specific tastes, and and an inconsistent human those tastes fluctuate. As a guide to the sort of things I rec, I enjoy happy endings (there are a couple of exceptions, but those are rare. I might be a cynical bitch in real life, but when it comes to my fiction I'm a hopeless romantic) and fairly vanilla sex (as a rule I'm not into BDSM or many other things that might be considered kinks - however, if a well-written fic sells me on the idea of the characters being into something, I'll go for almost anything).

Other things I'm prone to squee about

I geek out about science a lot. Mostly as it pertains to SF, since I can't call that work (alas).

I go to conventions, and then talk about them. Sometimes when someone is twisting my arm or threatening small, cute, furry animals, I run conventions, and then I talk about them even more but without having been to the fun bits.

I also love musical theatre. The Lord of the Rings musical was the greatest thing ever, though sadly it's closed. My other favourites include Wicked, The Little Mermaid, Phantom of the Opera and Les Mis.
