Wow, this was recced over at spock_kirk and this is awesome, a single part just like an episode, but with an ongoing art... wow. A lot of people try to structure stories like this, but you actually succeeded. You could do this pro, for reals.
I really, really love the way you integrate the pieces of the mindmeld coming into Kirk's consciousness at moments of stress. Really love it. It actually makes sense in a sort of neurological way, instead of being cheesy story logic.
I like your Kirk characterization. I like the way he's working on being captain (even though anything related to supervising is personally squicking me right now because of problems at work...I don't want to read it but you're handling it well). I like your Spock, too.
If I disliked anything I think you're being a little too harsh on McCoy. I don't think STXI McCoy needs to be as mean to Spock as TOS McCoy and besides, some of McCoy's rough words in TOS were actually subtext (cf "I'm worried about him too," in Bread & Circuses).
